I was accepted on the Changemaker Lab - World Pulse 2022 cohort and participated in Plastic Free July 2022.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that my application to attend the IKEA Lagom Live Sustainability Programme would be successful.
Lagom translated in Swedish means 'just the right amount.'

Congratulations to my peers, Ester, Stephanie and Dawn for participating in the course with me.

I'm Sabeena, a social entrepreneur, fair trade campaigner and educator.
So here I am for the 10th consecutive year participating in the Six Items Challenge with Labour Behind The Label.
This blog has taken a long time to complete due to a horrible bacterial eye infection I've had since February.
This year the challenge commences 2nd March - 27th April 2022.
Happy 20th Birthday Labour Behind The Labour team!
Much love
Sabeena
On a cold and very windy Tuesday evening I attended the IKEA session about upcycling items.
Many thanks to Ahmed for providing a wheelchair, and providing a behind the scenes of upcycling at IKEA.
This month I continued to heal from all my surgeries. Another painful month with my shoulders causing me stress and pain.
I published my blog and videos about the World Literacy Foundation Ambassador Program in English and Urdu. This blog took 5 months to write and translate due to my painful shoulders.

I was chosen to attend the IKEA Lagom Live 9 month sustainability program.
I received my certificate for attending the Muslim Mental Health and Wellbeing Alliance Conference, Muslim Mental Health in an Unequal World.
This is my humble effort to reduce my plastic consumption and waste for Zero Waste Week 2021.
My health has been challenging with a painful left shoulder and social anxiety.
Typing, mobility and anxiety has prevented me from going out.
I hope to support the Zero Waste movement with zest and vigour next year.

I have decided to participate and support the Six Items Challenge for the ninth year because I started to campaign for garment and factory workers while caring for my mother who had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
The six items challenge means I choose six items of clothing to wear for six weeks.
This year I celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight 2021 alone shielding in London, UK.
This year the Fairtrade Foundation's campaign focussed on Climate Change.
Many thanks to all fairtrade farmers, fairtrade organisations, volunteers and The Fairtrade Foundation team for making this virtual online festival an amazing success, and motivating campaigners like myself to learn and do more. :)

Participated in my second Plastic Free July 2020.
Was accepted on the prestigious World Literacy Foundation Ambassador 2020 Program and
completed my Future Learn MOOC - The Power of Podcasting For Storytelling.
This is my second year participating in Plastic Free July and due to my three surgeries and Covid-19 I have found the challenge difficult.
The UAE ethical movement is still in its infancy and substitutes for products like reusable/circular feminine hygiene and natural beauty products for acne/sensitive skin are limited.
I hope to continue my plastic/zero waste journey and hope to gradually reduce my consumption of menstrual hygiene and cleaning products and learn how to make my own soap, body wash, bread, conditioner and compost my waste..
It will be a long work in progress, but I'm optimistic.
During the last week of Ramadan, June/July 2016 on a hot bright sunny morning I took a flight to Beirut, Lebanon.
I'd never been to an International Fair Trade Towns Conference but was excited to know that I would be representing the United Arab Emirates.
I was so excited and anxious to display all the beautiful WFTO certified products at Safa Park Dubai.
