Ramadan in Malayisa
During the third week of Ramadan my husband decided to take a weeks annual leave to Kuala Lumpur and I was luckily enough to accompany him.
I'd never visited Malaysia during Ramadan so I felt privileged to see Malaysia from an fasting perspective.
Every morning at Fajr was beautiful while we ate suhoor (pre dawn meal all Muslims take before we start fasting) we could hear the muezzins reading dua'as before he made the call to prayer.
Ramadan in my humble opinion is about self discipline, giving to others and is the month of mercy. This blessed month is a time for deep contemplation and for prayers to be answered.
During the week I prayed and we both enjoyed walking around K.L's lively Bukit Bintang area.
Believe me when I say it was humid at 32 degrees.
We were in awe of the two chefs below who were rushed off their feet preparing iftar for so many.
Delicious Teppanyaki iftar at the Pavilion Mall, Kuala Lumpur
ADVICE: Reserve your dining place/s at 'TEPPANYAKI' during the afternoon. The earlier the better.
PRICE: You will be asked to pay in advance, take your time to choose your dishes and vegetables from the menu.
Keep your receipt safe you must show it when you arrive for iftar. I believe we paid about 120 Malaysian ringlets for two.
Ramadan is a peaceful time where most of us who can, spend our iftars (breaking of the fast) with family or friends.
AS a traveller you will discover that Malaysians also like to spend time with their friends and families and parking in Kuala Lumpur's major malls is impossible.
DON'T BOTHER DRIVING! WALK!
DO NOT TAKE A TAXI who will be stuck in traffic for hours.
From 6pm onwards traffic is at a stand still.
KUALA LUMPUR BUTTERFLY PARK
I particularly enjoyed visiting the Butterfly Park which was an oasis of calm and tranquility in the concrete jungle.
Not sure if I would ever return. I didn't like how they were kept under a blanket of netting. Butterflies should be free to flutter around.

LATA ISKANDER WATERFALLS
Lata Iskander waterfalls
My husband likes to drive and had hired a car for the week.
We drove and stopped near a the Lata Iskander large organic waterfalls near the Cameron Highlands where I purchased some hand made baskets.

FAIR TRADE KUALA LUMPUR
This visit to Malaysia was a short period and I did not have the opportunity to visit any fair trade or ethical producers.
However, I'm always on the search for unusual hand made authentic products and fairtrade brands.
It was good to see a display of fairtrade tea at the Suria KLCC and recycling bins for used batteries, tube lights and electronic devices. The campaign must have been popular as it expired 2015.

The week flew by and we returned home after a restful 7 days in Kuala Lumpur.
